Cape Town Surfing
Map of Cape Town and surrounds
Cape Town surfing locations offer locals great options in varying wind
and swell conditions.
If you live in Cape Town, you'll always get waves (if you're prepared
If it's onshore in Table Bay, then False Bay will be offshore...and
there's usually some swell around.
It's only when the SE winds have howled for a week in mid summer that
there will be absolutely nothing...
But hey...that's nothing that can't be solved by a quick trip up the West Coast
With the regular cold fronts that pass by the tip of Africa, Cape Town
surfing offers big waves on the western side...including the
infamous Dungeons (off Hout Bay) and Sunset Reef (off Long
beach/Kommetjie)...and plenty of power.
The water is ICY on the western side (you'll need a 4or 5mm wetsuit)
- yet it can be relatively warm in False Bay (3/2mm
in winter and boardies/bikini in summer).
