The West Coast of  South Africa  offers big surf, cold water  and uncrowded spots.

With the cold Benguella current moving up the west side of Africa, its 3-5mm wetsuit territory, all year round.

The further up the  west coast you go, the  less forgiving the terrain seems....scrubland gives way to semi desert...and of course, very few surfing crowds.

If you are monitoring the winds and swell, you'll do some serious mileage, but get some really good surf.

Early morning is best for a surf at the spot you've chosen -  before the winds get up!
