Yoga routines for surfers
You'll find that incorporating yoga routines into your surfing fitness
program will have a number of benefits:
Increased flexibility, improved balance, and better core
strength.
Most often, even serious athletes will not follow a suitable
flexibility routine... finding it time consuming and feeling that
they're not getting enough "bang for their buck".... the "no pain no
gain" point of view.
Flexibility sequences like we demonstrate below,
combine many of the
essential dynamic stretching and warmup exercises that we as surfers
should be using, into a workout that also has many strength
elements....so you'll feel like you've had a workout once you're done.
As you progress with the routines, you'll be able to hold the positions
for longer, and go deeper into the stretches.
The High Performance Centre of Surfing Australia teaches the following
sequences to it's up and coming young stars.
Use the workouts as part of your daily fitness program, and use an
abridged version as part of your dynamic warmup, before you enter the
water...you'll find that you will surf better.
